When it comes to wrestling, I pride myself on my resiliency and never quit attitude. I always make sure to keep it in my mind to just keep working, whether it be through fatigue, injury, or immense odds. I make sure I leave everything on the mat, regardless if it's at a meet or at practice. I’ve realized that the regret I’ll feel from not putting everything I have into everything I do is infinitely more painful than any injury I’ve ever had. This attitude is helped by something many of my coaches have brought up to me, that I’m never satisfied with any amount of work I do, even if I’m working myself half to death, which motivates me to work even harder each time I get in the room. I always do everything I can to score in any position, even if that means from bottom, which is actually where I believe a majority of my pins have come from. I make sure whoever I’m wrestling is never comfortable.
When it comes to my goals in college, they’re pretty expansive, both athletically and academically, very much because I extend the same mentality I have in wrestling to everything else in my life, just in a more relaxed way. First of all, I intend to maintain at least a 3.5-3.7 unweighted GPA, and average above an 85% on tests and quizzes.
Athletically I have multiple goals, some which don’t encompass wrestling. For example, I want to improve my bench by around 50 lbs by next school year, and my squat by 75lbs. With regards to my wrestling technique, I am always looking to grow and improve my stand-up game, specifically my confidence in takedowns. I’ve been told many times by my previous coaches that I’m often too hesitant when looking for a takedown, and was realistically good enough to go for them far more.
I did take time off following High School due to COVID & injury, but as noted above, I have been committed to building my body back to its full capability and believe I am mentally and physically more prepared now, then ever, to continue my wrestling adventure! I look forward to any questions and discussions as I return to the sport I love so dearly.
