Personal Statement
Winning Illinois Freestyle and Greco-Roman State two years ago changed the course of my wrestling career. It opened doors, such as being a part of Team Illinois Duals where we went undefeated and won Greco-Roman and Freestyle Nationals. This summer was unforgettable, qualifying for Fargo in both Greco and Freestyle and wrestling with the best in the country has shown me the caliber I can wrestle at.
Academics have always come easy to me, in fact most people do not know that I was pushed ahead a grade. As a freshman, entering high school and only being thirteen-year-old brought on new challenges, especially on the mat. Both in school and wrestling, I was always put in situations where competition was present, and I have risen to victory.
It was a huge accomplishment to earn my spot on the varsity team my freshman year with over 30 wins! Being an All-Conference as a thirteen-year-old and voted Freshman MVP made all the sacrifices worth it.
I was proud to be chosen by the coaches, as a Sophomore to lead as a varsity team captain. Along with the title of team captain, comes leadership responsibility. Leading by example, and motivating my peers that are older than me has taught me that age is only a number and respect is earned on and off the mat.
This year as a Junior, I‘m enrolled in four AP courses, along with wrestling through my high school and club. I am honored to be varsity team captain and working exceptionally hard on and off the mat in order to achieve my goals of placing at state this year, being All Conference, and 30+ wins during my season.
