Giovanni Gioio '24 Recruiting Profile

My name is Giovanni Gioio and my goal is to succeed academically so I am able to obtain my degree in physical education and continue with my dedication to a great wrestling program. 

Up until 7th grade I wasn't really sure where I fit in. I knew I loved sports, in fact, I tried as many as I could. While I learned a lot during those years I played baseball, basketball, and football,  it wasn't until I started wrestling that I found where I belong. The camaraderie of a wrestling team is like no other. Being on that mat and getting your hand raised, or giving your all after a six minute match is unlike any other sport out there.

I am a dedicated, disciplined, hard working, student who thrives on being a wrestler. 

During my first modified year my coach chose me as the seventh grade captain. He saw my drive and dedication and felt I would be a good example to my teammates. I moved on to JV my eighth grade year and made the varsity team as a freshman. During my sophomore year I was awarded captain of the varsity team and have remained captain for my Junior and  upcoming Senior year. I made all league my Sophomore and Junior year, as well as all section and all county my Junior year. My goal for my Junior year was to place in all tournaments and I was able to accomplish this. My goals for my senior year is to make it to states. I try to lead by example for my teammates, attending all practices, assisting the coaches when needed and always encourage my teammates.

Academically I work just as hard in the classroom as I do on the mats. Even though academics have always been a struggle for me I have never let that stop me from reaching my goals and maintaining a good GPA. I have made the honor roll a total of 8 times in high school and I won a  Math award my sophomore year. 

Ultimately I would like to find the right college match for wrestling and my future. I feel l have a lot to offer a team and look forward to what lies ahead for me making myself and my family proud.
