For years I have been involved in Martial Arts. I grew up seeing wrestlers in the UFC looking so powerful as they dominated the competition and I knew I wanted to wrestle. I started Jiu Jitsu the summer of my Freshman year and quickly realized that I was winning matches and I had a natural skill and ability in the sport. Wrestling seemed to be a natural transition but unfortunately, we did not have a program at my current high school. I stuck with it at the private gym as I began to hear rumors that a program may soon begin. It was my dream to be able to wrestle at that level. Only one year ago, in October of 2013, the rumor became a reality. We had a slow beginning with a lack of equipment and no wrestling mats within our reach until December.
My first year, I had done decently well and I was happy to hear whispers going on about me but I was devastated when I didn't accomplish what I wanted. As the season ended, I was more determined than ever. I had tasted success like no other and my one goal for the off-season was to do whatever is took to make up for time in order to become the best wrestler I could possibly be. I joined a private wrestling club that has been known for working with some of the best wrestlers in our area and started putting the pieces of the together puzzle.
I personally, want to be an All-American in college and ultimately a National Champion. With my determination and the right coaching team, I know it is possible. After college, I want to pursue a Mixed Martial Arts career and make my name one that is talked about in every household. I want to be a UFC world champion and make history.
The one thing I can promise anyone reading this is that I will not be out-worked. For the last year I spend over 40 hours in a typical week either on the wrestling mat or in strength and conditioning training. What I lack in experience I make up for in a uncontrollable hunger to improve the smallest details of my wrestling as I strive for that "perfection" in my style. I feel I would be a asset to any wrestling program because of the skills I currently possess, my determination and the fact that my goal is not to be out-worked by anyone in training. As an incoming freshman my work ethic will cause a chain reaction with the entire program working harder and of course, will make the entire team stronger as a whole.
I am a serious wrestler but I also pride myself for being a light-hearted, funny individual that knows that a good sense of humor is an asset especially in such a grueling season such as wrestling. Every team needs to have those individuals that can make the coaching staff as well as their fellow brothers laugh and bond as a team. Of course with the ultimate goal of not only my personal success but the success of our team as a whole. A strong team with a high moral is everyone's responsibility.
I feel my character has vastly changed with the sport, and have been told countless times I carry myself very well and humbly. Coming from playing football in a well established program, I feel I'm a well rounded athlete and more of an athlete than the typical wrestler or even a well accomplished one. Any coach that I have ever worked with will tell you that I am one of the most dedicated and hard working individuals on their team.
Academic wise, I am always curious about the space between the lines in English and history. I constantly ask questions and want to know the material well. I also take a interest in health, fitness, culinary arts & psychology.
One thing I can promise ANY recruiter reading this is that I'm a hard worker and am CONSTANTLY improving and have not hit a plateau like many high school wrestlers I have gone against have. I am always training, and when I'm not, I read books such as Wrestling tough and technique books such as Winning Wrestling Moves (both having the brands brothers involved, which I try to emulate their work ethic). I am a hard working individual and am sure I can rub off the attitude into ANY wrestling program.
