Personal Statement

My name is Simon Fossett, and I am a wrestler from Broad Run High School in Ashburn, Virginia. At the young age of 8-years-old I became captivated by the sport of wrestling, and fell in love with the art of the sport. I have tough goals set for my future endeavours as an athlete because I am not one to back down from a challenge, or shy away from hard work. Some of these ambitions include both wrestling and weight lifting goals. Some of my aspirations as a student athlete include: attending a Division 1 college, becoming an NCAA All American, 500 lb squat, 600 lb deadlift, and 365 lb bench press.

February of my Sophomore year, at the state tournament I was faced with my first major setback—a torn ACL ensued from cutting weight. In preparation for my Junior season, I had to get ACL reconstruction surgery. I worked harder than anyone that year—I was in the gym lifting weights before and directly after surgery. I wasn’t going to let an ACL injury define me. I began going to the gym before school, reading more books, and found myself more motivated academically. In December I was finally cleared to start wrestling and worked extremely hard to make up for all the time I missed. Every time I stepped foot on the wrestling mat, I was going to be the hardest working wrestler in the room. After long Saturday tournaments during the wrestling season, I would be the only person in the gym late at night. During the pandemic my training hasn’t been put on pause. My family invested in a garage gym setup, and I have been running 8 miles once a week for months. I believe I am different from many other wrestlers because I have overcome many challenges while out working my opponents—and I will continue to out work my opponents in the future. I strive to never be outworked and to become the best version of myself both: physically and academically.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
