I’ve been playing baseball for about 13 years now and I’ve come a long way winning four Championships and playing in three all-star tournaments, winning one of them. Not only did I become a better baseball player, but I also matured a lot over the past years. I have handled situations a lot better than how I did in the past. I started high school at Saint Patrick in the fall of 2017 and it didn't feel that different at first because my grade school was just down the street. It took a while to start making friends at Saint Patrick because there were a lot of kids I didn't know and they all went to other grade schools. But then the swim season started and I made a lot of friends and became a pretty good swimmer. I feel like swimming at Saint Patrick has an incredible impact on my social life and health both in mind and body. I mostly swim the 50 freestyle and occasionally other events such as the medley relay and the 200 and 400 freestyle relay. A couple of my biggest accomplishments in swimming are having PR for the 50 freestyle of 27 seconds and taking 9th in my conference for 100 backstroke. I decided to join the swim team because I would benefit my health and endurance on the baseball field and it was another form of a workout. Now that brings me to baseball, I currently play first base and I am in the pitching rotation as a starter but i will go in whenever the coach tells me i believe that I will do anything to benefit the team in any way. I have had some trouble finding the ball on the offensive side of the game but i can't wait to get into the swing of winter workouts and start getting my mechanics sharpened. I currently top out around 78 mph from the mound and I need to start working harder and pushing myself to get more speed on the ball because I'm 6’3 240 and I should be throwing a lot harder than just 78. I did recently have a huge leap in my exit velocity. I jumped from hitting around 80 mph to a max of 96 and still climbing. This year has been a wild ride and I will continue to push through all the challenges that are thrown at me such as this global pandemic and living through it. This pandemic has taught me to be a better person both to other people and myself. I feel like I have matured a lot and gained valuable life skills in communication. and brush off the dirt and keep fighting. Colleges most likely read about lots of kids trying to go to many schools but let's hear about a 17-year-old kid from Chicago that is trying to make everyone proud. I feel like this describes me in many ways but there is always more to improve on.
