Ever since I first stepped on the field/court as well as the mat I have always felt some sort of connection and happiness that cheerleading has brought to me. From stepping on the grass cheering for my mighty might games at 5 years old, to stepping on the mat at worlds in Florida as an All-Star team member, both of these experiences has brought me such joy for so many years. Cheerleading has inspired me to step out of my shell and become a person that I would have never thought of being.
My first time cheering was one of the scariest things in the world. I did not know anybody and as a five year old I was very shy and stubborn. I would have never expected myself now being a head captain for my senior year of high school and calling out cheers in front of hundreds of people. Cheerleading has brought that confidence out in me, and now helps me successfully present projects in class as well. It has always been my dream to cheer at the collegiate level right as I tied those size 4 cheer shoes before a game.
I am always striving to be better and work hard yearly. I work at this by going to high school cheer clinics my team sets. As well as college clinics to get the right experience I need. As well as volunteering at youth clinics and helping coach the younger cheerleaders, my responsibility and leadership skills can then be shown.
In the classroom aspect I am always striving to maintain my high honors, my GPA, and my athlete academic letters I receive at the end of the season. I also am always striving to continue in community service in volunteer work, by volunteering at my local soup kitchen, dog rescues and younger cheer clinics that are held near me.
My dream institution would allow me to challenge myself both on the cheer team and in the classroom. I want to compete at the greatest level and ultimately find the perfect college match. Therefore I am open to all alternatives. In addition to making my parents proud, I want to excel as a role model for all of my peers and the community.
Thank you,
Jocelyn
