Watching my upperclassmen Varsity field hockey teammates win States as a sophomore was one of the highlights of my high school career. However, I feel I grew the most as a student-athlete when I was a freshman. During the second day of field hockey tryouts, I suffered a stress fracture to my lower back. As a precaution, I had to sit on the sidelines for 4 months while I healed. The injury occured while I was still growing and the doctors wanted to ensure my growth plate was not damaged. Fortunately, I had made such a great impression on my coaches the first few days of practice, I made the Junior Varsity team at Severna Park High School. While injured, I continued to attend every practice and developed a greater appreciation for the game. That experience helped me to grow mentally and demonstrate my true passion for the sport to my coaches. That next Spring, following my recovery, I made the Varsity tennis team and earned a Varsity Letter as a standout player. During that same period, I joined SPark, a highly competitive club field hockey team, which provided the competitive challenge I was seeking. I played for the U16s in the National Club Championship tournament and our team took 12th place nationwide.
My Sophomore year, I made the Junior Varsity field hockey team and was fortunate enough to be nominated as the Team Captain. I helped lead our team to a highly successful season with 1 loss, 1 tie, and 11 wins. I learned the value of commitment, leadership, and teamwork, through the various challenges we faced. I’m looking for a program that will fit my talents athletically, as well as academically. As a three-sport athlete, also having obtained a 1st Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do (2015), and demonstrating proven team building skills as a team captain, I have what it takes to be a part of a highly competitive team!
