I grew up always trying new things. Field hockey became a part of my life ever since I was able to hold a stick. My mom was a collegiate field hockey player and has been coaching for over 20 years, so I was exposed to the sport from an early age. I would go to her practices and want to play like the girls I watched. I quickly came to realize that I loved team sports; the friendships, the accountability, and the competition. Being active became something I relied on as I started to pick up lacrosse as well.
Playing multiple sports has allowed me to have a strong field sense. I visualize plays and passes, especially in the circle. I had the most assists on my team this past season. Playing “carpet hockey” in my room made my ball handling skills sharp, and being a midfielder has made me an extremely versatile player. When I first started field hockey, I was on the defensive line and later on I moved up to midfield and offense. I adapt quickly to any position and can always lend my support to other teammates. My hard work was recognized in the 2021 season when I won team offensive MVP, and in the 2022 season when I was awarded a section four 1st team all-star for the Lancaster-Lebanon League. I joined my club team, Tigers, in 2021 and I have learned so much from both my coaches and my teammates.
From the beginning, I always strived to play like the girls I looked up to. Extra hit arounds after practice and going to the fields with friends on the weekends all shaped me into the player I am today. Gaining confidence in my skills not only allowed me to play my game, but it also made me a role model for the girls on my team. I became the person I had always looked up to, and a future captain for the 2023 season.
Sports have also taught me the importance of challenging myself both physically and mentally. Physical fitness is something I prioritize, and I spend a lot of time running in the off season. Running keeps me in shape, but more importantly, it is a mental challenge. I have grown to love it, and I’ve pushed myself to do races like 10ks and half marathons. Academically challenging myself is something I actively do everyday. I take a rigorous class schedule and I have maintained a 4.0 grade point average. Even though schoolwork can be difficult, I still find time to do things I love, like ceramics. Finding the balance between my academics and extracurriculars has been hard, but I know that I need to be challenged to perform my best. Ultimately, I want to go to a college which challenges me and allows me to pursue my athletic interests.
Additionally, I’ve had a passion for environmental science for many years and I am president of my school’s sustainability club. I look forward to continuing my studies in college and helping to shape the community around me.
