Personal Statement
I am a 5'10" field hockey player from Virginia Beach, VA and would love the opportunity to play field hockey in college. I play club field hockey for Saints Hockey Rocks and also for my school: Princess Anne High School. I am studying in the International Baccalaureate program at PA where I currently have an unweighted GPA of 3.295 and a 2nd attempt SAT score of 1450. The program is highly academic and I love the positive energy environment in which you can’t help getting swept along with and you will not find a school with more spirit than PA!
I am a British national but moved to the USA when I was 7 years old. Both of my parents played competitive field hockey and my dad continues to play today for the USA over 50s! He was the British Army Field Hockey center forward throughout his career. I first began playing hockey when I tried out for middle school in 6th Grade, and I haven't stopped playing since. I love being part of a field hockey club and really enjoy the company of my team-mates. I am a 'people person' and because as a family we moved a lot when I was much younger, I am very adaptable and used to different situations. I feel that I am easy to get along with, so the opportunity to play college hockey in a team group would be fantastic.
Why should you consider me for your team? I am still growing within the sport and continue to develop and improve. I listen well and take on board all advice given to me. I'm an unselfish team player but I'm hungry for goals and this year scored 17, with 8 assists in my school season. I am a natural leader and have been selected to the staff of our school leadership workshop program and hope to captain PAHS next season. I am conscientious about my studies and my sport. My experience in the rigorous IB program at PAHS will set me up well to deal with the stresses of juggling academics with sport in college.
To summarize: I want to major in Business and hope to find myself at a college that meets my high academic needs, but also has a fun and caring environment, allowing me to balance and enjoy academics and athletics. I can't wait to see where field hockey takes me over the next few years!
