My name is Miles Mendez and I attend Cypress High School in Cypress, California. I am a junior in the class of 2019 and play defensive end for my team. I have been playing tackle football for seven full seasons now and senior year will be my eighth. This last season, I was named all CIF Defensive Lineman, First Team All-League, and Defensive Player of the Year. I try my best to work as hard in the classroom as I do on the field. I have a 3.7 GPA and a 1200 score on my PSAT.
When I graduate from College, I want to move to New York City and become a filmmaker. In order to help me accomplish these goals, I am looking for a school that offers a film program and hopefully close to New York City. To achieve this career, I am taking a broadcast media class, where I film and edit small commercials to show in our school's daily announcements. On top of that, next year I will be taking a video production class which will focus more on the filming of movies. This is what I am trying to accomplish off the field.
In the most humble way, I think that my biggest strength when playing defensive end is how smart I play the position. Our defense is run by everybody doing their jobs. I may not make the tackle on every play, but I always do my job. I keep contain of the outside edge and push the runner inside to our linebackers. When lining up, I pick up what plays they run from which formations and other giveaways the offense may have. I do think that this is my greatest strength on the field.
