Personal Statement
I’m passionate about playing football. Football creates a bond you don’t really ever break. As a varsity captain, I’m able to push my teammates and lead by example. I know how important it is for everyone on the roster to be the best they can be so the team can be the best it can be.
My goal is to play competitive college football at a high level. I’ve had to overcome obstacles to get where I am today. After an eye injury jeopardized my freshman year, I realized how easily this could all go away. When I was cleared to play again, I doubled my effort to get bigger, changed my diet, started a weightlifting program and started working with a personal trainer. I also realized how much the mental aspect plays into my success. Even though I couldn’t play, I went to every practice, worked with coaches and helped the younger players.
Now that I am in my senior year and our team is heading into the playoffs, I realize how much all the hard work, teambuilding and leadership have led us to this point. In addition to my love for playing this game, I have found my voice as a leader. As I look towards my future career I want whatever I do to give me the same feeling I get from football – working together as a team, motivating a group towards a shared goal and to challenge myself.
I’ve had success in my high school college career but I know that is only the beginning of what I can achieve. I’ve never be afraid to bet on myself.
