Personal Statement

Prospective Coaches,

My name is Joe Gray. I am currently going into my senior year at Oakmont Regional High School with a 3.43 GPA.  My competitive athletic history began with wrestling in Junior High School. Culminating with me winning The Youth New England’s Championship in my weight class. While in Middle School I also began to play football. I fell in love with the sport instantly. Playing DE and RB I led the team in several major categories. Entering high school at that time Athol High School, not really being a football school I decided to change schools and move in with my father. I was nervous about this big life change at first but I knew this was a football school with players and coaches that take the game seriously.  We play the game with passion and for each other. This is what I hope to find in a College program.

I would describe myself as a smart and explosive pass rusher with effective power and finesse moves, strength in coverage both man and zone, ability to close space fast, superior hand fighting and feel for manipulating body movement learned from years of wrestling greatly enhances my ability to get off blocks and contribute to the run stop. I play to the whistle with aggression and toughness.

I love the gym. My father being a Multi Time Champion power lifter helps me design my workout routines based on current needs and time of year. I pay strict attention to the foods I put into my body to optimize growth and my performance. I love watching and analyzing film and  trying to figure out the puzzle of opposing teams and nothing is sweeter then when that pays off. I am very competitive and have been my whole life, whether it’s Monopoly or a football game I want to win. Ultimately what I’m trying to say is everything I do, I do for my performance on the football field , never wanting to let my teammates down. If you choose me for your football program I can promise hard work and dedication year round. Thank you for your time in reading this and keep watching! I look forward to speaking with you.
