My collegiate goal is simple: to continue to play the sports I love. Since I was a young boy, I dreamed of playing football and/or baseball beyond high school, and in a perfect world, earning an athletic scholarship would make my dream come true. What drives my passion and desire is the idea of gaining an education while playing at the collegiate level. Without a doubt, this will ensure happiness and success for my future.
Because I am willing to hustle on the field and in the classroom, this makes me a good candidate. As a student athlete, I must lead by example. It is my nature to be a positive individual, proven by my body language and words of encouragement. I claim to be a leader on and off the field and put great effort in keeping my teammates UP. If we are behind on the scoreboard, I won’t allow my team to get down…if we are ahead, my message is always “Don’t let off the gas!”
I come from a close knit family; fortunately, my parents are involved, supportive, and raised me with morals and values. They instill good manners, such as “ma’am” and “sir”, when speaking to adults. Their constant instruction is to never disrespect myself or others. I am proud to say they hold me to the highest standards of behavior, and this is so ingrained I can easily demonstrate their teachings in order to make them proud. My hope is to influence my teammates who may not have the same guidance my parents have provided.
In athletics, I strive to be consistent in setting a good example. When I put on the uniform, I fully understand the importance of representing my coaches, my sport, and my school with dignity. If there is a setback or a controversial call during a game, I’m aware that my community is watching from the stands, and my teammates are watching from the field and sideline. So I believe in maintaining composure; if a reaction cannot be helped, then do so with maturity and good sportsmanship.
I think of myself as a great student in school. My parents, teachers, and coaches do not worry about my grades. I challenge myself by enrolling in advanced courses for all of my core classes and feel that by being academically ambitious, I will carry the skills, confidence, and preparedness I need for success in college. Furthermore, I recognize the importance of a strong work ethic, punctuality, and working under deadlines when juggling my coursework and extracurricular activities.
I have invested my heart, time, and commitment to my high school experiences. My promise is to use every moment of my college life with purpose and pride to accomplish my goals.
