Personal Statement

Hello Coach, My name is Filipos Weldesillassie. I believe that I would be a great addition to your team because not only am I a 2-time League Champion not a lot of people can say that by the way. But I am also able to help the team when needed the most. I get easy buckets to help us succeed, a lot of people compare me to Lou Williams and Andre Iguodala because of my IQ, and no matter if I come off the bench I am able to get myself open to help us stay at the top. I also am a great spot-up shooter who averaged around 47% per game. My defense is also immaculate averaged around 5 steals and 4 rebounds per game. On top of that, I'm always on top of my education never had to sit out of a game because of my academics. One thing that I am not is a Cancer to the team, so when you choose me you're choosing a Champion. And lastly, I am a quick learner so if the coach ever adds a new play in the book I will have it memorized.

Awards and Activities

  • AwardsLee Tempkin Award: I received this award with a $500 scholarship right before entering high school. The Lee Tempkin Award is given to a graduate(1-2 person) who shows leadership and dedication to their community, but I was the first person to get a scholarship. Oakland Public Library: I spent all my summer and most of my weekends volunteering at the Main Oakland Public Library, Golden Gate Branch, and mainly West Oakland. While I was there working I was also in their reading/volunteering program, and I would read to little kids, and even help them with their work. When the program ended I won a Chromebook from the Main Library.
  • ActivitiesThe past extracurricular class that I have taken are, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and currently I taking English 1A. Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church Oakland: Before quarantine I would spend every Sunday morning, I would go to church at 4:30 am and open up the church and start up the Projector and the PA system for the Pastors, and Brothers to use, while also worshiping. After that, a couple of hours would go by and I would help out one of the adults, with Bible Study. Teaching the kids the history of God. 8.5 Per week 52 Per year I love to help my community so much that whenever someone thinks of me they think of me as a helpful nature. Teachers and staff members can always count on me from helping them with tasks around the class to fixing their internet problems. I have helped out so much that some teachers even joked about me being on the payroll by now. And out of school, I love to give back to the less fortunate my mother and I would give out food, every month. And before quarantine, my church and I would make big meals for the homeless and feed them.
