Personal Statement

UPDATE RE: GRADES:  Although I have a 3.0, this is not representative of my abilities. I was finally diagnosed with ADHD this past summer (2022) before my senior year and put on medication. Six weeks into the 2022-23 school year, with a full load of courses including Physics, Math, Law, Psychology, English, etc. I am maintaining straight A's. This is a better representation of my abilities that I will carry forward into college.

To say I love the sport of basketball is an understatement. I live, breathe, eat and sleep basketball. I also attend Rock Canyon High School in Colorado where the basketball teams are deep and many players go on to compete at the collegiate level.

At the end of my sophomore year of basketball, I made the decision to stop playing club ball and focus solely on my skills – mental and physical. I thought this was the best path to get me where I am today. I didn’t know it then, but this decision changed the trajectory of my basketball future. I worked out daily with a basketball trainer, did my own strength and conditioning as well as played pick-up games at the gym. I also spent one year with a sports psychologist, Dr. Doug Jowdy, author of The Gold Medal Mind. I absolutely learned that mental training is just as important as physical training. It completely changed my game.

I came back the next season and became a starter and a team captain. My high school coaches described my game as a “night and day” change and I am now an example to my teammates of what can be accomplished when you set a goal. My work ethic and dedication for this game are second to no one. I have not promoted myself or tweeted my highlights, but I come from an athletic family. My sister is a NCAA Division 2 swimmer at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota.

I am a positive, valuable, coachable player known for my speed and athleticism. I’m the fastest man in our basketball program and I have a solid vertical jump. I am a humble, kind and quiet player that is grateful to play the game I love and I want to continue to play this game in college.

  • To Whom It May Concern, I am very pleased to be writing this recommendation on behalf of Bennett Case. I first met Bennett at our youth camp when he was in 4th grade. He then played in our feeder system and has continued through our High School program. I believe he has a great chance to have a great senior season as a varsity player. He has been a great representation for our High School program on and off the court. He works very hard on the court, in the classroom and in the weight room. I believe Bennett’s best strengths are his work ethic, his competitive nature, and his unselfish attitude. He has matured into a great young man with a lot of promise. On the court, Bennett has developed into a very athletic guard who can score in a variety of ways. He is really smooth when he attacks the basket and can finish with both hands. He is a very capable three-point shooter but he is best as a slasher. He is getting better at reading defenses and understanding what type of cut to make offensively. Defensively, Bennett is really good on ball and understands when to rotate and take a charge. He has a lot of upside and we are hoping he develops into a bigger role for us next year. I recommend Bennett because he is a young man with a big heart who understands what it takes to be successful. Due to his determination and his characteristics I believe he will be a positive addition to any program. Kent Grams Strength and Conditioning Coach Head Boys Basketball Coach [email protected]

  • To whom it may concern, I’ve been given the opportunity to coach and train Ben Case since he was in middle school. Ben’s work habits will separate him from his peers as he continues his career. Ben frequently reaches out to get extra gym reps and will clear his schedule to improve his game. Ben’s rebounding ability is above average for a guard, and he possess the athleticism to guard bigger opponents. His ball handling capacity allows him to play the point guard position effectively. He’s an off guard who slashes to the rim hard and finishes in a variety of ways through traffic naturally. His shooting has improved exponentially over time allowing him to be more of an offensive threat. He is explosive and strong combined with a competitive spirit. Two other outstanding qualities that Ben holds are his personality and being coachable. His classmates and teammates enjoy being around him. He doesn’t want to disappoint anyone, so whatever he is asked he will put his best foot forward. It has been a gift to watch Ben mature over the years and I genuinely believe any college would be fortunate to have him. Respectfully yours, Mike Evans II
