Jy Smith '21 Recruiting Profile

My name is Jy Smith. I attend Avondale Senior High School in Auburn Hills, Michigan as an upcoming Senior for the graduating class of 2021. My scholastic goal is to pursue Marketing with a minor in Sports Management while playing the game I love – basketball, at the collegiate level. 

“Why would I be an asset to your organization?”  My answer is simple, I absolutely lovelearning and challenging myself on and off the court. I am always looking for ways to stimulate my mind intellectually and better enhance my skills by practicing new drills, increasing my speed and agility to become a better player all around. Currently I am holding a 3.85 GPA, I am the varsity team captain, all while volunteering my services as a youth basketball mentor for Oakland County Police Athletic League (P.A.L.) and Avondale Recreation League for Youths. I am also a participant with Oakland University Project Upward Bound Program (PUB). Presently, I partake in Advance Placement Courses (AP) with focus on Business and Entrepreneurship. I am creating my future with an unwavering foundation.

Even though I am focused, determined, and hard-working, I still strive for ways to better myself and my game. I consider every moment as an opportunity to achieve greatness and display leadership because success is a part of my DNA. I self-taught myself to utilize my time wisely, efficiently, and preeminent to support my goals. While on the court I strategize my opponents defense and offense to gain momentum, off the courts I build from my strengths and learn from my weaknesses as every day is a learning day.

As I approach my senior year with a sense of uncertainty, it is my belief I would gain my direction and create a pathway for a lifetime by attending your institution. I would bring a high level of energy and fun to this learning environment while taking this opportunity to increase my self-knowledge.
