Personal Statement

My name is Trey Ilevbare. I am currently a Senior at Brentsville District High School in Nokesville, Virginia. Academically, I would describe myself as a great student athlete. I am proud to say that I am an Honor Roll student and have earned a 3.5 GPA overall. I am excited for the next chapter in my life and I look forward to attending college and pursuing a career in Kinesiology, Physical Therapy or Sports Management. Being able to play basketball at the college level would truly be a dream come true. The game of basketball is my passion.

My basketball story began in 4th grade. When I first started playing, I was not as fast or athletic as some of the other kids. I could not dribble or shoot as well as some of the other kids, but I did not let that discourage me. Instead, I began focusing on what I was truly good at- defense and rebounding. With my strong build and my competitive drive, I became one of the best rebounders and defenders in the league. Over the years, my love for the game grew stronger. I worked extremely hard to expand my game by refining my ball handling and shooting skills. I have grown into a multi-dimensional and versatile player who can succeed at any position on the court. These skills have truly been put on display during my Senior year at Brentsville District High School. I have functioned as the lead guard and main ball handler for our very young Varsity team. I have had to leverage my ball handling, playmaking, and leadership skills to help my team be successful. Despite the challenges that come with a younger, inexperienced team, I have not given up. I remain focused on working harder to help improve personally and help my teammates get better at the same time. Looking back, I am proud of how far I have come, and I am excited to keep working and see what else I can achieve.

My coaches would describe me as tough and extremely coachable with a high basketball IQ. They would also say I am defensive-minded and have excellent court vision. I thrive on locking down a team’s best player defensively or setting multiple charges in games to force turnovers. My competitive nature, my physical and mental toughness, and my hustle make me a valuable addition to any team.  I consider myself a student of the game. Having a close relationship with my travel coach and stepdad, I absorbed so much knowledge and insight about the game. This knowledge has often allowed me to serve as an extension of the coach on the court helping to lead my teammates whenever possible. Over the years, as both a player and team captain, I developed confidence and learned how to be a leader. I always focus on leading by example and learned how to teach others respectfully. Last year, I had my first experience coaching 4th grade recreational basketball. This experience changed me tremendously. Teaching others the game provided me with a different perspective and helped me to further refine my skills on the court.

I am excited to find a school and a basketball program where I can thrive and grow as a person and a player.  I look forward to getting to know you!
