Get to Know Me!
Hello, my name is Jamie Chen. I am a 14-year-old attending Irvington High School. I started golfing at 10 when my father started to bring me to the driving range. As a former top nationally ranked badminton player, I have learned how to be an athlete and the mental toughness required to be the best at whatever I do. I was previously ranked 6th in JGANC. I am taught by my swing coach, Eric Stone. My average score for 18 holes is 73 with a 1.1 Handicap Index, according to the USGA GHIN. I played drive, chip, and putt and played in the sub-regionals. I will soon start to play AJGA tournaments.
Why Me?
As a former badminton athlete, I have learned many things throughout my not-so-very-long career. I learned that talent is necessary to be great, but hard work, determination, discipline, and an understanding of what to do, creates the super soldier that can accomplish anything that he puts his mind to. When playing badminton, I was never the fastest, the strongest, or the smartest, yet the thing that separated me from my competition was my drive. From those 9 p.m. runs in the dark until I threw up, to the times when I wanted to just quit, I kept pushing to my fullest abilities, knowing that I could always be better. Now that I have applied this mindset to golf, it creates a path to victory and success in anything I do.
