I have learned that hard work, preparation and perseverance are the keys to success. This applies to school, friendships, and golf. Although I am continually presented with challenges such as difficult chemistry concepts, a round of golf that doesn’t meet my standards or making choices that are not always popular with my friends, if I keep working and stay level-headed I can overcome any obstacle and look back on those challenges as an opportunity to grow stronger.
Golf has been a particular source of growth for me. I was introduced to golf by my dad and try to play with my dad and brother any chance I get. Although playing with my family is fun, it always pushes me to play smarter, and it has helped me become a better tournament player. I have had an opportunity to play team golf both through the Junior PGA program and the Farmington High School team and learned the value of assisting less experienced players as well as learning from more advanced players. Golf has taught me sportsmanship, humility and the importance of honesty in all aspects of my life.
I apply these lessons to my academics as well. I strive to be a well-rounded student with diverse experiences that can expose me to many different opportunities. Each academic experience supplies new successes and failures that call on the skills I have honed through golf. I work hard to be a strong member of every group project and seek help when I need it. My goal is to be an academically strong athlete that utilizes my valuable life skills to enhance and lead my team to success. I am confident in knowing that I will be proud of any result if I have prepared and worked to my potential.
