Personal Statement

I want to go as far as the game of golf will take me.  I have said this since the first time I really golfed at age 13 and haven't put the clubs down since.  This means getting a college education in so doing.  I do not come from golfing parents; however, they have embraced that game for the character it builds and the values it teaches.  Golf has made me more diligent in homeschool, making me want to get my studies done quicker so I have time to golf more.  I think this gave me the advantage to grow in the game quicker than others.  I have been homeschooled throughout my life but have found team golf to be extra fun.  I was able to join Christ Prep's golf team as a Freshman and through team golf have made lifelong friendships.  Summer golf has allowed me to make even more friends.  Golf to me represents what a quality life will look like, pressing one's self to becoming better when no one is looking.  It's exciting to see where golf will take me and all my friends.  I've been taught over the years to operate from The Law of Abundance rather than from a scarcity mentality.  I've been required to write a paper on the two topics and see how this will continue to play into team golf beyond high school.  I've also been taught that the difference between expectations and reality equals your frustrations.  I embrace the process of moving my reality to become better and have learned to work through some of the frustrations of changing my game.  There is no better journey to live.  Golf teaches life.

If you are not a coach that operates from a law of abundance and the laws of attraction, we are not a fit.  The more we do, the more we do and to God be the glory.

Events

  • Tournament of Champions (Hurricane Junior Golf Tour)
  • 12/02/17 to 12/03/17
  • This is the Hurricane Tour's Champion event. Only those that have won one of their events is invited to play. I won their event at Sycamore Ridge Golf Course in Springhill, KS by shooting -4 on the 2 days. Par round, followed by a bogey free -4 on day 2. The field is set at 95 players.

  • Junior Mid America Cup
  • 10/21/17 to 10/22/17
  • Was 1 of 2 boys chosen to represent the Kansas City Golf Association (KCGA) for the 16-18 age class in a Ryder Cup format. 2 years ago I had the honor to represent in the younger age class. In total there are 4 boys and 4 girls going up against St. Louis (MAGA). This event dates back 19 years to 1999. Day one is boys best ball and my partner (Ryan Bender, Kansas State University commit) and I lost on 18, 1 down (I had a strong finish having birdied 4 of the last 5 holes). Day two was coed and my partner (Rosie Klausner, Central Missouri State University commit) and I won 6 & 4. It is always a great honor to be invited to represent my association and city in such a prestigious event and as always, I make great lifelong friends out of the two day event. My YouTube (In my profile) has both rounds should you wish to see my play. When play was concluded, KCGA retained The Cup in a two day tie of 4 to 4, having won The Cup in the previous year. 2 years ago when I played on the team, we won as well. Course conditions: Day 1 was very windy (30 MPH) as you will notice in the videos. That evening we had 3" of rainfall and day 2 was very cool (warmed up in the afternoon), wet, sunny with very light winds. The course was waterlogged. No local rules were played.
  • Camp/Event
  • KCGA 2017 Boy's Match Play Championship
  • 10/13/17 to 10/15/17
  • Field of 16 will be reduced to 8 following a 9 hole stroke play qualifier on October 13. Players will be seeded by their 9 hole scores. I shot -1 and got the #1 seed in the tournament and lost my first match on 18. Just had a slow start while my opponent jumped on a bunch of birdies. I managed to get it back to all square late in the round but went 1 down on 17 as a result of a bad tee shot. On 18 my opponent sunk a birdie putt from 30' putting the knife in me. Stuck around and watched the next match and got to see my buddy, Ryan Bender win it! Ryan went on the next day and won it all. Very happy for him.
  • Camp/Event
  • Youth On Course
  • 9/25/17 to 9/25/17
  • I just golfed/walked/hiked 100 holes of golf for the Charity, Youth On Course. This charity is big in Kansas City and growing throughout the Nation. It allows junior golfers a chance to play $5 rounds of golf at participating courses. The course in turn bills the YOC for the balance of the green fee. I have taken full advantage of it since its introduction into the metro by The KCGA. It has helped me get a lot better at golf, learning along the way about patrons and course etiquette, pace of play and even networking with those perfect strangers that wish only the best for my golf career. It was the biggest honor to be asked by the KCGA to be a junior golfer in this event. Thank YOU KCGA.
  • Camp/Event
  • Major Championship at Eagle Bend (Hurricane Junior Tour)
  • 9/09/17 to 9/10/17
  • Day 1 blocked my first tee shot right, so things really started on a bad note with a penalty for a double. On the day, 2 doubles, 5 bogeys, 9 pars and 2 birdies. Came ready to play on day 2 but just couldn't seem to transfer weight to my left side. 1 triple, 1 double, 6 bogeys, 9 pars, 1 birdie. Went 79/82 on the 2 days and tied for 7th in a field of 12.
  • Camp/Event
  • Heart of America 4 Ball Championship
  • 8/07/17 to 8/09/17
  • Lost our match 3 and 2. Single elimination so I go back to KC and study for my ACT.
  • Camp/Event
  • KCJT Championship Lake Quivira CC
  • 8/03/17 to 8/03/17
  • Won Player of The Year for the KCGA on their Kansas City Junior Tour. Today shot +4 75 (4 birdies, 7 pars, 6 bogeys, 1 double). 74 won the event in a field of 32. Wasn't my best day with an awful start (Bogey, double, par, bogey). Was struggling with my tee shot and literally played down an adjoining fairway on one hole (almost got birdie). I put my driver away for the day and used my 2 iron on the remaining holes. It was a very tight race for Player Of The Year and was paired with Blake Aerni who shot 74 and got runner up in POTY. Made great friends out of him and we all went to lunch after the tournament. Like always, I had fun and made new friends!
  • Camp/Event
  • KCJT Sunflower
  • 8/01/17 to 8/01/17
  • Shot +5 for a 77 and took 3rd place. Been sick all weekend and had to actually withdraw from my AJGA event in Branson, MO. Rested all weekend and played a practice round yesterday using a cart and shot +1. Came out with 3 straight birdies, par, bogey, birdie. Everything looked good at -2 at the turn but I lost all energy and shot +7 on the back. On the day, 4 birdies, 7 pars, 5 bogeys, 2 double bogeys. I still lead the KCGA in Player of the Year points and will play in their Championship on Thursday. Will rest up and see if my summer cold will wear off in time.

  • 7/18/17 to 7/20/17
  • 75/84/77, 38th in a field of 72. Day 2... ZERO FAIRWAYS. Not a good tournament but will bounce back. HISTORY.
  • Camp/Event
  • KCJT at Prairie Highlands
  • 7/06/17 to 7/06/17
  • 1st place, Shot -1, 71 with 1 double bogey, 2 bogeys, 10 pars, 5 birdies. Lost 2 balls, one on 9 and another on 13. I had 15 putts on my front 9 (course back 9) and 11 putts on my front 9 for a total of 26 putts. We only count putts from the green and some were on the fringe which explains why I officially hit 11 GIR. Only hit 7 fairways on the day and struggle off the tee box.
  • Camp/Event
  • Hurricane Tour: Kansas City Junior Open
  • 7/01/17 to 7/02/17
  • 1st place finish by 8 strokes. Day 1: hot conditions, even par, 72. 1 double, 3 bogeys, 9 pars, 5 birdies. Hit almost every green and had 3 balls in the hazard which I incurred 3 penalties on the day, just couldn't putt. Day 2: Had my 2nd tournament round in past month of bogey free golf. 14 pars and 4 birdies. Took a couple of clutch putts from the course as my proximity to the pin wasn't yard darts like the day prior. Hit most greens and fairways again. No lost balls and no hazards came into play. Fun to play the same ball all the way through 18 holes. Great conditions and love the course. Never played it before. My dad thought I had to have played the course before and never thought of having a practice round. Looking back, that would have been nice to have had because the 3 balls that found the hay on day one were simply bad decisions on the tee box, not because I hit the ball bad. Fun 2 days and made some new friends!
  • Camp/Event
  • KCJT at Dub's Dread
  • 6/28/17 to 6/28/17
  • Took 1st place on a very windy day, carding a 79. Wasn't the best performance with the putter with a 4 putt and a 3 putt. Had to really scramble to keep it together. Field size was 24 in the 16+ age group. 1 double, 7 bogey's, 8 pars, 2 birdies... Like I said, not the best performance on the golf course but a win is a win. I like playing in the KCJT events when they fit the schedule simply because my short game practice is by far the most import thing I like to practice. Keeps me fresh and sharp with the irons and gives great practice for the putter. I also love the KCGA, they have always treated me so well and without their help, I wouldn't be tracking as quickly as I am.

  • 6/26/17 to 6/27/17
  • Eric Pahls was my partner. We shot -2 on day one and -2 on day two and tied for 9th in a field of 22 teams and received a 9 seed in the Heart of America Fourball tournament. I shot 73 & 72 on my own ball.
  • Camp/Event
  • KCJT Hosted by the KCGA
  • 6/22/17 to 6/22/17
  • Shot 71 (+1) for the win in a field of 35. Breezing and hot conditions. 4 birdies, 11 pars, 2 bogeys, 1 triple. triple I mis-clubbed and put it in thick hay. Lost ball, couldn't find it. Game is coming together nicely and looking forward to going low. http://ghintpp.com/kcga/TPPOnlineScoring/resultsStroke.aspx?id=756&fid=1779
  • Camp/Event
  • USGA Junior Match Play Championship Qualifier
  • 6/21/17 to 6/21/17
  • (+2) Shot 74 on 6,994 yards, tied for 7th in a field of 51 golfers. 1 triple, 1, double, 2 bogeys, 9 pars, 5 birdies. 6 fairways, 12 GIR's with some Non-GIR's on the fringe. Winds from the SW at 15 MPH and finished in 92 degrees of heat. I was -2 going into my 9th hole of the day (hole 18 on the course) when my tee shot rolled up into the hay in the hazard, blocked my next shot right into the hazard... 2 penalties and 3 boxes around my number for a triple, followed up with an easy par putt I missed and then went par, par, birdie, birdie, birdie. This number isn't my lowest number ever but was the most solid round of golf I have ever played. I had 2 bad holes and in the end it's what stands in between me and going to the USGA Jr. Am. Very relaxed day of golf. Golf is a lot easier when you hit fairways and greens and when you do miss them, don't miss them by much!
  • Camp/Event
  • PGA Junior Championship Qualifier
  • 6/19/17 to 6/19/17
  • 36 holes, one day qualifier. Garrett's friend, Joe Bultman (Junior) has now won this back to back! Garrett went 78 on his first 18 and followed it up with a 74 taking 6th in a field of 23. They played the course a par 72 by stretching out hole 14 into a par 5. On the day (36 holes), 3 doubles, 7 bogeys, 21 pars, 5 birdies, for a 152 total... 146 is what won it. Endurance was great against the field and can see where Garrett's physical fitness is a big asset in 36 holes of play. He didn't limp along like many did.
  • Camp/Event
  • Sunflower Hills Golf Two Man Best Ball
  • 6/17/17 to 6/17/17
  • 1st place finish. Shot my first bogey free round on my own ball. 69 with 3 birdies and 15 pars. My cousin was my partner and as a team we shot 65.
  • Camp/Event
  • 58th Boys Junior Amateur Championship
  • 6/13/17 to 6/15/17
  • Tied for 32nd in a field of 120. Shot 79, 74, 74 on a par 70. First day wrecked the field with sustained winds of 30 MPH and hourly gusts clocking over 40 MPH. Balls got blown off the greens. 8 birdies, 26 pars, 16 bogeys, 3 doubles, 1 triple for the 3 days. Note, I have played in this event for 4 years now and have always made the cut. This year my age bracket (17 year olds) was by far the most crowded field with 43, cut to the low 15 after day 2.
  • Camp/Event
  • 2017 Colorado Buffalo Junior Open
  • 6/09/17 to 6/09/17
  • Coach Roy Edwards hosting. Shot 79 from 7,300 yards. Placed 17th in field of 34.
  • Camp/Event
  • AJGA Qualifier Hale Irwin, Westminster, CO
  • 6/04/17 to 6/04/17
  • In a field of 51, top 6 will advance. Shot 81 and did not advance into tournament. Took 38th of 64 and gained a performance star with the AJGA.
  • Camp/Event
  • KCGA Junior Championship
  • 5/31/17 to 6/01/17
  • 36 holes of stroke play. 9.9 handicap and lower allowed to play. Took 39th of 46 golfers. Shot 85, 89 or 84, 86 for ESC GHIN recording. In the spirit of full disclosure, I have vowed to put ALL in this profile, the good, the bad and the ugly... These are 2 really big, ugly numbers and are now history. You either get bitter or you get better. Pay close attention as I WILL GET BETTER.
  • Camp/Event
  • KCGA Match Play Championship
  • 5/19/17 to 5/21/17
  • Shot a 73 in stroke play (+1), had 4 bogeys, 12 pars, 1 birdie and 1 eagle. I was tied 16th in a field of 78. It was a great experience and my first Amateur event. Lost my first match and was eliminated 7 & 5 but I learned a lot. My opponent was a great guy and really enjoyed playing against me and said he knew I was better than what the match indicated and would really like to play me again. Perhaps Jason Adkins, Titleist Rep would be a good reference. I will take him up on a rematch. 78 players reduced to a field of 32 after 18 holes of stroke play. This is an amateur event requiring a handicap of 5.0 or less to enter.
  • Camp/Event
  • Homeschool State Tournament (KS)
  • 5/10/17 to 5/10/17
  • Garrett is the defending State Champion. Shot 84 and took 7th in a field of 34. Worst round this year. No excuses, it was like I forgot how to golf. 4 doubles, 7 bogeys, 5 pars, 2 birdies. You either get bitter or you get better. Stay tuned but tonight the sting is real. 35 putts. Still struggling with my putting.
  • Camp/Event
  • Homeschool Nationals
  • 5/04/17 to 5/05/17
  • Took 10th place finish overall in a field of 36. Rivercut is currently 5' under water so the tournament was contested at the Bill & Payne Stewart Golf Course in Springfield, MO. AFTER DAY 1: Currently sit in a 4 way tie for 6th place (3 strokes off the lead which is Alex Shead from Augusta who is ranked 64th in the Nation by JGS). Carded a 76, 8 bogies, 8 pars, and 2 birdies. There is standing water (like ponds) all over the course. Missouri has had historic rainfall and flooding. Winds were NNW at 25 MPH with gusts over 40 MPH which had a negative impact on putting (32 putts). I had 4 putts do a hard lip out. Struck the ball great and fairways missed were not by much with the exception of my 18th hole when I blew my tee shot OB and took one from the course when I sunk a long putt to save bogey. DAY 2: Shot 77 (GHIN as a 75 ESC because of quad) 1 quad, 1 double, 2 bogies, 13 pars, 1 birdie. 15 MPH winds, sunny, course was still soggy but no excuses. Two very bad holes! Got to just learn and move on.
  • Camp/Event
  • St. Thomas Aquinas
  • 4/27/17 to 4/27/17
  • Shot 71 (par). Won individual medalist (field of 40) besting 2nd place by 2 strokes. 3 bogies, 12 pars, 3 birdies. Had two 3 putts and putted 30 times. Still needing to work on my putts. GIR's were great and fairways were not bad because the fairways I missed, it wasn't by much. Struck the ball great and love my new driver (M2)... Really making a difference. It was a picture perfect day in Kansas! Highs in the low 60's, sunny and no wind.
  • Camp/Event
  • Shawnee Mission NW Ryder Cup
  • 4/26/17 to 4/26/17
  • My partner (AJ Pujos) and I won 7 & 6. Cold (50's) and rainy but winds only at 11 MPH. Unfortunately we never made it to best ball. We had a lot of fun and made new friends.
  • Camp/Event
  • Lawrence Free State
  • 4/20/17 to 4/20/17
  • Shot 79 and tied for 33rd in a field of 135. This was probably the biggest 6A event in the area for the school year. 70 won the tournament. 1 double bogey, 6 bogeys, 10 pars, 1 birdie with 37 putts. 37 putts is off the charts bad for me. Putting has always been my strongest part of my game and it's good to know that my GIR's are coming up (72% in this case). Shouldn't be very hard to figure this out going into my last couple of weeks of high school golf as I prepare for summer tournament play. Striking the ball great, hitting fairways and have finally figured out my tee shot which was my major problem from last year. We are clearly dealing with one issue now, the putter. Weather was one of the best days I've played in Spring golf, 60's, light winds and sunny. I golf the #1 spot for our team and for some reason I was placed with a group of #6 golfers but that wasn't much of a factor in my bad score.
  • Camp/Event
  • Blue Valley North Invitational
  • 4/19/17 to 4/19/17
  • Took 1st place. Shot 77 (went in the GHIN as 75 ESC) Field of 35. Had 1 Quad (Ball OB. Players told him there was no way he could drive it through the dogleg. Not only did he, he flew the tallest tree at the end at 300 yards), 2 doubles, 2 bogeys, 10 pars, 2 birdies, 1 eagle. 32 putts this round to my average of 27. Sustained winds from the south at 23 MPH otherwise sunny and a high of 80. Note: hit the ball very well and this score is no indication of how well he golfed.
  • Camp/Event
  • TPC Deere Run Junior Classic (Hurricane Tour)
  • 4/15/17 to 4/16/17
  • Shot 83/78 (83 went in the GHIN as and 82 on account of the triple for ESC score) and tied for 21st in field of 61. Putting was my main issue (34 putts on day one, 30 on day two to my average 27), struck the ball the best I have all Spring season. Conditions was very windy (doubtful the PGA would have allowed play on day one). Course was waterlogged from rains prior to day one and that evening the course got over 2" of rain. Light winds in my practice round when I shot a 74. Beautiful course and made a lot of new friends. I want another chance at this course and will be back next year for sure. Day 1: 1 triple, 2 doubles, 5 bogies, 10 pars. Day 2: 1 double, 6 bogies, 10 pars, 1 birdie. My dad filmed most every shot and must have had some alignment issue on putting because I've never seen myself lip or edge the cup so many times. 10 for sure. Even the guys in the group mentioned on several occasions they never seen more putts edge by.
  • Camp/Event
  • Leavenworth Invitational
  • 4/13/17 to 4/13/17
  • Shot 78 and took 4th in a field of 38... Had to leave as soon as I finished to drive through the night to get to my practice round at Deere Run and can't find anything online about the field size. Conditions were good but the greens were not.
  • Camp/Event
  • Mill Valley Invitational
  • 4/11/17 to 4/11/17
  • Tied for 5th in a field of 98, shot 76 (75 in ESC for GHIN), 72 won it (even par). This was a 6A event. I missed 1 fairway and only by a foot. I mostly used my 2 iron off the box (Never pulled my driver out of the bag). I was hitting my 2 iron 240 to 250. STUPID MISTAKE of my life... I PLAYED THE WRONG BALL on my 6th hole (NEVER going to make that mistake again). Came back with a par, birdie after that mistake. 2 stroke penalty costed me a triple! 1 triple, 4 bogeys, 10 pars, 3 birdies. Conditions: Best of the year, light winds, sunny. Greens were not good... Very bumpy. http://www.kansasgolfscores.com/Boys/2017/messagetrny.php?trny=Jaguar%20Invitational
  • Camp/Event
  • Shawnee Mission East Invitational
  • 4/10/17 to 4/10/17
  • Tied for 5th in a field of 108, shot 76. This was a 6A event. 74 won the tournament. Sunny and breezy. Course was in good condition. 1 birdie, 7 bogeys, and 10 pars. My parents did not attend therefore I can't remember GIR's, fairways, and putts. First time I ever seen the course. Did not hit the ball very well. Hit it really bad off the tee. http://www.kansasgolfscores.com/Boys/2017/messagetrny.php?trny=SME%20invitational-KCCC
  • Camp/Event
  • Cair Paravel Invitational
  • 4/06/17 to 4/06/17
  • 1st place finish, field of 36. Carded a 74 (Par 70) with, 1 double, 3 bogeys, 13 pars, 1 birdie (32 putts to my 27 average). They had just aerated the greens and the putts simply wouldn't roll true, example... I had a 2' putt that hit a aeration hole and rolled the ball 45 degrees off course. I bested 2nd place by 8 strokes. Sunny, 14 MPH winds per Weather Channel but lake winds on most holes had to be higher, wet course from rains, temperatures in the 50's. Wind off the cold water had temperatures much lower. Spectators were wearing winter coats and ski caps.
  • Camp/Event
  • Shawnee Mission Northwest Invitational
  • 4/03/17 to 4/03/17
  • Tied 10th in a field of 97 (18 teams 6A for the most part). Carded an 80 (ESC 78 in GHIN) with 2 triples, 2 doubles, 3 bogeys, 7 pars, 4 birdies (31 putts to my 27 average). Cloudy, windy, waterlogged course from rains, temperatures in the 40's and 50's. Learned better course management and to respect my short putts as a result. A score of 73 won the tournament. http://www.kansasgolfscores.com/Boys/2017/messagetrny.php?trny=Shawnee%20Mission%20Northwest%20Invitational

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
