Nicholas Mercer '21 Recruiting Profile

I recently completed my junior year at Arlington Catholic High School and was inducted into the National Honor Society.   My parents have instilled in me a work hard play hard attitude which helps drive my success.

I was one of two freshmen to make the varsity golf team.  My handicap is currently 6.5, and GHIN is 2559025.  Over the past 7 years, I have been playing golf with the New England PGA Junior League and the past two years including the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour.  I have four 3rd place and two 2nd place finishes with the NEPGAJR Series.

I was named Captain of Arlington Catholic's Varsity Golf Team in 2019 and 2020.  I am the # 2 golfer on my high school team. My best 9 hole finish in my junior year was an even par 35 against our arch rivals, Austin Preparatory.  I was also named a Central Catholic League All-star in 2019 and recognized by both the Boston Globe and Boston Herald.

With the aid of Dennis Meyer, PGA Professional at Dennis Meyer's Golf School in Naples, Florida, December 2019, I was able to improve on my short game.  I have seen dramatic changes in my game and reducing my handicap from 13 to 6.9.   

Most recently, I am swinging forged irons, which give me more shot shaping opportunities and greater accuracy. 

I would like to continue my competitive play of golf in college.

I also play ice hockey for my high school, and at the club level for the Boston Imperials, and the United States Premier Hockey League, for the Islander's Hockey Club under coach Anderson and Umansky. 

My hobby, since the age of 8, has been race karting.  I have raced nationally at Rock Island, IL, Carolina Motorsports Park, SC and at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Indianapolis, IN.  I am a member and driver with the New Hampshire Karting Association and race at Canaan Motor Club, and the New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
