Personal Statement
With the help of my swing coach, Taylor Riggin, my high school coach, King Faulkner, and the support of my parents, I have been blessed to play in many tournament at a high level in my junior golf career, with a couple of top five finishes in regional 36 hole tournaments. I have also made the cut in a couple AJGA national tournaments.
I started with a personal trainer in August (2018) to help me with my golf game and have continued to do strength training on my own since then. Since I began working out, I have gained 30 yards on my drive.
I am going to be an 11th-grade student next year. Being in a private school affords me the opportunity to advance academically and also provides me with a lot of extra time for golf practice, too. I also had the privilege of taking 4 semesters of Greek alongside my father and three semesters of Hebrew at Tyndale Theological Seminary. I received straight A’s in each of those classes.
I have been part of the First Tee of Fort Worth for five years since I first started golfing and am currently in the ACE level. I really enjoy focused practice which I believe has helped me to drop my handicap from a 25 down to a 2.4 within a year, however, it is currently a +2.1.
I was in the Civil Air Patrol program for 4 years, which is an auxiliary of the United States Air Force. That specialized training has worked hand in hand with helping me to gain composure and to keep a cool head and steady hand during tense moments of tournament play. I have just recently decided to stop attending meetings to focus on my grades in school and practice my game.
I aspire to beat the course record of 63 at my home course,The Resort Golf Club. I also aspire to play college golf at a high level, earn a PGA Tour card, and make a career out of golf.
Some fun facts about me are that my furthest drive is 327 yards, I like Taylor Made golf clubs, and that is what I play. My favorite club is the driver, and my favorite course is Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, TX. I played baseball for 6 years in all positions including pitcher, but I have stopped playing all sports besides golf to focus on becoming ready to play in college. I have played the piano at my great grandmother’s retirement village, have won first place at a local chess tournament, and am the eldest of four brothers.
I truly believe that I can contribute greatly to your golf program and university as a trained leader and dedicated student-athlete. Thank you for taking the time to look at my profile.
Sincerely,
Luke Wiertzema
