As a military kid who has moved every one to two years, hockey has been one thing I could always count on. Being a new player each year at try outs, I knew that I only had a couple of skates to showcase my skills. Coaches were seeing me for the first time and I worked hard to ensure I was noticed. I have played competitive hockey in many associations throughout Canada and the USA and have been able to successfully adapt my game to each hockey style and coach. From this I've learned that with hard work, it is possible to start the season as a fourth line player and earn a place on the first line. I approach my education in the same manner, challenging myself academically; I am not satisfied with anything less than an A. For me, college is more than just continuing to play high level hockey, it is also the gateway to a rewarding career. Regardless of future hockey prospects, at the end of my post-secondary years it is important that I achieve a marketable Bachelor's degree.
