Personal Statement
I love to play hockey. I love being able to play with my friends on the ice, skating around, and playing competitively. It makes me feel good when I get to play against other strong teams, and we battle it out. It's a different feeling than anything I have ever done, and I want to do this as long as I can.
I feel one of my character traits that hockey has helped develop is perseverance. I don’t give up on a task whether it is in the classroom or with sports. If I don’t know how to do something, I ask for help so I can get it right and know what to do. I will ask my coach how to work out better off ice so that I can improve my game on the ice. I talk with my teachers daily and will ask them questions when I am stuck or need help doing something. I want to maintain my high grades as well as be an elite athlete.
A time that this perseverance has come in handy was with French I. I struggled with my French teacher the first year, she was absent over 40 times, so I asked to take it online on my own. It was not an easy thing to do, but I wanted to learn the language as my grandparents speak French, and come from Canada. I worked hard even though I couldn’t always talk one on one with my online teacher; and used my resources to learn the language. I have a B+ right now in French II, and love my teacher and class.
Many of my coaches tell me that I catch on quickly and I am usually the one leading drills to show my teammates. I like leading the team and helping them. I know I am a good teammate and I take practices, games and off ice seriously. I want to be the best I can be.
