Athletics has always been an important part of my life. My focus has been basketball since the age of 4, and more recently I have started to play lacrosse and football, and I love it! . While there are some similarities, each sport teaches me something different about myself, about being on a team, and about life. I really appreciate the way that team sports build a sense of family, each player growing independently, but always depending on one another. One of the threads that runs across all sports for me is the thrill of playing defense. I don't mind scoring, but everyone wants to be a scorer. I get satisfaction out of doing the dirty work, defending can be thankless job, but every team needs lock-down defenders who can hold their own, and help the team towards success. I am a defender through and through, I defend the goal, defend the basket, and defend the end-zone, but beyond that I also work to defend my family and friends, and the defenseless.
I played one year of club lacrosse when I was 10, and my team won the championship. I was named Most Valuable Player, and had the most scores and stops on my team, then I picked lacrosse back up in my freshman year. While I started on the JV team, I was quickly moved up to Varsity, and was a starting varsity player, by the end of the season. In my sophomore year, I was placed on varsity, and started all season (with the exception of two games when I was injured). I was named to the Jefferson District, All District Second Team as a Defender, and was the only Sophomore amongst all seniors on both first and second team.
I take academics seriously, and I am on track to complete a dual-degree, which means that I will graduate with both my high-school diploma and an associates degree from an area community college. Whenever possible, I take honors, AP, and Dual Enrollment classes. On top of playing sports, I enjoy playing in the concert orchestra, working with younger kids, and doing leadership activities at my school.
