I treat the sport of rowing with respect, dignity, and adherence. Rowing allows me to constantly challenge myself in ways that can either lead to hardship or success. I treat success as my greatest weakness. To not get full of myself and focus on finding ways to progress further. Hardship is natural, without experiencing hardship you can not grow and without trial and error, there is no growth.
Rowing has molded me into a strong, confident, open individual that is opportunistic when presented with a challenge. I embarked on rowing solely to get into shape with no anticipation of going anywhere. Little did I know I would start realizing I cannot find another sport like this. Where the only determining factor of how successful you are is the amount of time and effort I invest in it. I quickly learned that good is the enemy of greatness. There is no margin for the amount of triumph I can experience. But determining whether you are willing to take that extra stroke, or go for that run on your off day will decide what type of athlete you are. I try my hardest to be an athlete like that. I do my best to follow those rules I have made and believe they make me a better athlete for doing so.
Thank you.
