Hello coaches, my name is Steven. I have been playing soccer for about 9 years. One of my goals and aspirations in soccer is to make it pro. Well, isn’t that everyone’s dream? Yes, it is. But for me, it’s also about making my parents proud because they did a lot for me to get where I am right now, and I have to thank God as well; if it weren't for them, I wouldn't be here today writing this. I wasn't always a good player, and I wasn’t born with innate talent. I started at the Sunday league level, but my love for the game deepened as I began playing more. By the age of 11, I knew I wanted to step up to club level to take soccer more seriously. I wasn’t very good, but the coaches at El Camino Soccer Club saw potential in me and gave me a chance to join the team. In the beginning, I was hardly getting any playing time—maybe 0 to 10 minutes in NPL games—and I felt like giving up. But deep down, I wanted to prove myself on the field. My passion for soccer kept me motivated, and when the season ended, I dedicated myself to practicing 4-5 times a week, regardless of the weather—rain or shine. I wasn't seeing immediate results, but I kept pushing myself. When the new season started, we entered a prestigious league called ECNL, and the coaches said it was a big opportunity for us. I started getting more minutes—about 20 to 30. By the end of the season, I was able to start my first game and play a full half. I was incredibly proud of that achievement. Returning for the next season, I noticed that my teammates recognized the progress I had made and praised my improvements. I felt like a new player and began to start games and contribute a lot to the team. It was exhilarating, but I knew that it was just the beginning. I continued to work hard, was called to PDP, and participated in ECNL playoffs and showcases where I caught the attention of other coaches. However, it’s essential to note that while this journey sounds smooth, I faced struggles and moments of lost confidence throughout the way. I didn't let those challenges deter me from pursuing what I love. I have faith that it's all part of God's plan, and I trust that everything happens for a reason. When my teammates face difficulties and struggle with confidence, I make it a point to support them both on and off the field. This encapsulates who I am as a player: hardworking, dedicated, passionate, disciplined, motivated, resilient, and a leader.
