My name is Ian Spry, and I am a four-year varsity goalkeeper at Ames High School. I have played soccer for almost 14 years and have played goalkeeper for about six years. In the fall, I play for my local CDL team, Ames Soccer Club, but I have also received offers from various ECNL and ECRL teams. In addition to playing for school and club, I play for the top ODP team for my age group. As well as being a good goalkeeper, I am an even better teammate. As a goalkeeper, you need to be able to communicate with your teammates, lift them if they've made a mistake, and congratulate them for making a good play. My friends and teammates know that they can rely on me in times of need and that I will always be there to support them and give them advice. In addition, I am as good, if not better, off the field than I am on the field. I hold myself to a high standard academically, which is evident in my high GPA and the rigorous classes I am taking. Many athletes focus solely on the athlete part as a "student-athlete," which sets me apart. I excel in both the athlete and student part, which is why I would be an excellent player, teammate, and student to have.
