I’ve been playing soccer since I was 5, and my siblings and I have always been on the field together. One of the first lessons I learned was from my older siblings: when you get knocked down, you don’t cry instead you get up and keep playing. Growing up playing alongside my teammates and being exposed to college coaches as our trainers made me realize early on that I wanted to play soccer at the next level. Hearing about their experiences with the recruiting process, the friendships they built, and the thrill of both wins and losses pushed me to strive for that same kind of competitive environment.
Throughout my soccer journey, my coaches have always emphasized learning to play multiple positions. This helped me understand how to work with my teammates and read the game better. Because of this, I’ve developed a strong soccer IQ, which allows me to communicate effectively on the field. My creativity and technical skills also help me get out of tight spots and either set up a teammate or take a shot on goal when needed. I take pride in being a hard worker both on and off the field, whether it’s putting in extra time for strength training or practicing new moves and plays to improve my game.
The values I’ve learned from soccer also show up in my academics. I’m committed to doing well in my dual enrollment college classes and work with my friends to support each other. We have study groups and ask for extra help from teachers when we need it. I’ve learned that I’m more successful in a group setting, which has helped me during my senior year of high school.
I’m looking for a college where I can push myself academically and athletically. I’m open to different options but want to find a place that challenges me in both areas and offers a high level of competition. Ultimately, I want to be a role model for my siblings and make my parents proud of the work I put in.
