Personal Statement

I started playing soccer at the age of 3, and instantly fell in love with the game. From Club, ODP, and High School levels, my love and passion for the game has never left and continues to grow every day.  I have used these programs and teams to grow and develop not only my soccer skills, but leadership and teammate skills as well. I am a team player and I understand that everyone must work together and contribute to be successful. I am very committed to my academics and know that to be successful, education has to be high on my list of priorities. I want to grow and learn as a person so I can contribute to and make the world a better place. I look forward to growing as a soccer player and a person.  Feel free to email me at your convenience.

Training

  • Player Evaluation 3/15/20--Cameron Sauro--Assistant Men's Soccer Coach-ETSU
  • 1 year
  • Sauro, Cameron Malcolm Sun, Mar 15, 9:44 PM Here is my evaluation/plan for Grant. Strengths Offensively Grant is extremely technical on the ball and has no problem making decisions as well as playing out of tight situations. His athleticism allows him to cover ground going forward just as well as defensively which makes him an asset as he can always be an option in the attacking half. Defensively Grant is good at staying on his feet and reads the game well. He very rarely puts himself in a position where he needs to make a slide tackle to solve a problem, he is patient. Grant again covers ground well (horizontally) in front of the back line to force teams back and deny play into the opposition forward. Weakness/Improvable Areas Offensively Grant is gold at connecting passes in short distances but I would like to see him improve the range and speed he is able to move the ball around at. Being able to receive, and play a diagonal, driven ball to the opposite winger or outside back is a quality a lot of coaches look for in top quality defensive midfielders or center backs. He has the composure to play short, but needs to continue to his understanding of when to switch the ball out. Grant's body orientation is normally quite good but I would like him to scan the field more often, so he can make his decision on what happens next, then orientate his body to ensure such a scenario happens. Grant should always make sure to lead himself a bit more with his first touch to make sure he doesn't get the ball stuck at his feet or kill the ball! Defensively Grant reads the game well but needs to initiate contact more often than he waits to receive contact from other players. For Grant, being confident to be the first player to lower his shoulder in a challenge and use his body to direct the opposing player away from net. Grant also needs to make sure he doesn't drop into the back line when we defend deep, he needs to be part of the layer that forces team back. If you have any questions, just let me know! Thanks,
  • Exact Camp--Atlanta Boys Multi College ID Camp-11/25/2019--Coach Cook University of South Carolina
  • 1 year
  • Atlanta, GA Soccer - 11/25/2019 Evaluated at Atlanta Boys Multi College ID Camp on 11/25/2019 by Coach Cook of University of South Carolina Skillset Overview Technical Abilities - 89 / 100 Passing - Creates opportunities for teammates with accurate passes. Rarely over or under hits the ball. Ball Control - Quality first touch in space, and controls the ball under pressure. Tactical Abilities - 89 / 100 Field Spacing - Highly active and involved in the attack. Gives good distance of support and passing angles for teammates. Reading The Game - Does well seeing the first level of pressure and making appropriate decision on the ball. Physical Abilities - 89 / 100 Endurance - Great work rate throughout camp. Showed endurance that helped effectiveness, especially late. Agility - Showed good agility. Good body positioning and footwork helped you change directions quickly. Mental Abilities - 92 / 100 Resistance To Stress - Maintains composure in pressure situations. Great job staying focused on the task at hand. Confidence - Great confidence, didn’t shy away when challenged at camp and played with a sense of urgency. Coach's Comments Grant showed a good understanding of balance and spacing on the field. He found good pockets of space to get himself on the ball and then in possession made good passes and decisions when in possession. Grant was busy and active in his role and was constantly moving to support his teammates in possession. He is a technically capable player despite being so young. As a 2024 graduate, Grant still has a couple more years to develop and mature which bodes well for his future as a college player. You did a good job in possession of connecting your passes and supporting your teammates but midfielders at the college level must play both sides of the ball. You must track runners through the midfield, close down quickly, and win tackles. This will make your game more complete. A central midfielder must be the link between the back line and strikers. Try and get turned and play forward as much as possible. The more passes that you play square and backward, the more pressure that invites from the other team. Help your team relieve that pressure by breaking lines and playing forward. The college game is very fast and physical. Being able to play in one and two touches will vastly increase your ability to transition and adjust to the demands of the college game.
