I love to compete, and I think swimming might be the purest form of competition there is. There are no teammates to shoulder the burden when you're having an off day, no referees to blame. You are either faster than the person next to you, or you're not. There is no other outcome, and what a thrill it is when you come out on top of that matchup. But perhaps even more exciting than winning a heat, or a medal, is when you beat your own expectations. That feeling, when you've trained hard enough, and fought hard enough, and look up at the scoreboard to find that you've gone faster than ever before is incredible The competition you have with your own limits, and what you thought was possible, might be the fiercest competition of all, and offer the most satisfying rewards.
I would love to continue to compete in college- I'm not ready to give that up. I am looking for a school that will challenge me and offer me opportunities academically, and I'm looking for a college swimming program that is looking for a competitor who will work hard and battle every single day, whether it's in practice, dryland training, or at a meet with our biggest rivals.
