After finishing a summer playing on an All-Star Little League baseball team, I hung up my ball and glove and picked up a tennis racket, and since then I have never looked back. Quickly developing a passion for this sport, I set a goal to become the very best at my school.
Over the last seven years this goal has not wavered. In middle school, I set a goal to play the No. 1 singles position and become the best player on the team. I achieved this. As a freshman, I continued striving toward this goal, going undefeated all season. With limited varsity spots available, my goal quickly became learning how to be a more versatile player. As a sophomore, I began the season with a strong showing at the No. 2 doubles position and by the middle of the season was promoted to the No. 1 doubles position. Going into my junior season with a varsity line-up of six other seniors, I set my goal to become the No. 1 singles player on the team. After challenge matches, I earned my desired position by not dropping a challenge match as the only junior on a senior filled team. Returning to the No. 1 singles position, my goal grew to not only developing as a player, but as a leader, mentor, and team captain to a team with a new coach and underclassmen. All of my goals I have set throughout my tennis career, I have achieved.
Truly, my season never ends. I continue taking private lessons and participating in local and regional tournaments. I have won multiple tournaments and have a shelf full of trophies to showcase my accomplishments. As I am writing this, I look up and take pride in these hard-earned trophies that represent many hours spent on the court through blood, sweat, and tears.
As I prepare to complete my tennis career in high school, it is my aspiration to continue developing into a better player at the collegiate level. I am on pace to graduate with an Academic Honors Diploma and desire to continue excelling in the classroom as well as on the courts.
