Personal Statement

I have been on the Track and Field and Cross Country team since my Freshman year. I first started out as wanting to use these sports to better improve my performance in Soccer. But I quickly fell in love with running when I started Cross Country and have never stopped. It wasn't until my Junior year that I started to take the competition seriously and really started training. My coaches believed at the time that I should try the 400m and in my first year of seriously training for it, I was able to run a PR of 53.91 in the 400m and a 52 split in the 4x400m. At the start of training, I ran 1:03. To make that big of a drop within my season made me feel proud and accomplished. As I enter my senior year of high school my coaches and I have decided to focus on events ranging from the 400m to the 1500m.

I think what makes me a good candidate for college Track and Field is my dedication, positivity, and patience. I go to practice every single day and train extra on my own so that I can reach the goals that not only my coaches want to see, but that I also want to surpass. I currently serve as Captain for the Cross Country and Track and Field team at Henry J. Kaiser High School and do my best to lead by example and be a good role model for the younger runners. I always try my best to be upbeat and positive throughout the workouts and races and do my best to encourage other runners to keep working hard at practice. Through this last year of training, I have found that by trusting my coaches, being patient, and working hard will allow me to get better and better every day and further help me to set new PRs. One of my biggest goals is to run Track and Field on the collegiate level and I will work as hard as it takes to accomplish this goal.
