My name is Maxime Morin and I live in northern Ontario, Canada, in a small town of 45 000 people, named Timmins. I’m currently in grade 11 (junior year) and attend École secondaire Thériault, a French school.
From a very young age, I developed a passion for sports, whether it was playing in an organized league or just recreationally with friends. I’ve played multiple sports, such as: cross-country, track and field, hockey, basketball, soccer, volleyball, badminton, downhill skiing, etc. Two of these sports have always been an even bigger passion for me: cross-country and track and field. I started running competitively at a very young age, when I was 7 years old (second grade). At the time, I had joined the cross-country team of my primary school and immediately showed talent and passion for this sport. I have been training and competing in this sport since then, and I have never stopped. I started track and field when I was 9 years old (fourth grade) when I was invited by the Timmins Porcupine Track and Field Club (TPTFC) to join them. I have also not stopped training and competing for track and field since I started. For this reason, I would really like to study where an excellent program in cross-country and track and field is offered.
Education has also always been something very important to me. I am fluent in both English and French. My class subject interests are mathematics and sciences (physics, biology, and chemistry). Engineering has always been a career path that fascinates me, especially biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, material engineering, and boating engineering (or naval architecture).
I have received multiple academic excellence awards in grade 9, grade 10 and grade 11.
I am not only committed to my education, cross-country, and track and field, but am also very implicated in community volunteer work. I am part of a community outreach program through my high school, called Projet Amour Communautaire (PAC). We do community work to help those in need and will also be travelling to Jamaica to volunteer our time for various projects. I have and will continue to volunteer at such places as Project Love, Anti Hunger Coalition, Science Timmins, Yo-Mobile and my high school.
Finally, I truly believe I could become an even better runner if I was given the opportunity to train freely all year. Here in Timmins, Ontario, our winters span from late October to late April, and are very cold, as low as -40ºC (-40ºF). This means I am obligated to run in extremely low temperatures and inside, on a treadmill, during these long periods of time.
I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss my academic and athletic goals with you. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
Respectfully,
Maxime Morin
