I compete for American Fork Cross Country and Track and am the most improved runner on our team that just won the Utah State Championship for the 9th time in 10 years. Although I wasn’t a part of our top 7 that competed at the State Meet, I have been a point scorer for our Varsity team during the season as well as posting impressive race victories at both Grass Relays and Wasatch invitationals in the JV races.
My best times this year are 16:02 for 3 miles at Utah County Invitational and 16:33 for 5K at the BYU Invitational which was held at Utah State University due to raging fires and smoke near BYU. I feel like that was my best race so far for the following reasons:
We train at a very high level at American Fork averaging between 60 and 70 miles per week doing both morning and afternoon runs. Having been a part of this type of program, I feel as though I will be able to make the adjustment to a Division 1 college program without any issues and the college performance and success of former American Fork High School runners over the past decade speaks for itself. Just look at the success former AF runners are having for BYU.
It has been my goal to run Cross Country and Track for a Division I University since I was in the 6th grade. Over the past 4 years I have had the opportunity to run for 2 different high schools; one that didn't train very hard and one that trains at a very high level which is where I have been the past two years. Having had the two experiences I have truly learned the importance of hard work, a positive attitude, mental toughness, being a supportive teammate, buying into Coach's workouts and program, and being happy with my performance as long as I have put in the work, competed, and give my teammates, my coaches, and my self my very best efforts.
This past cross country season (my senior year) I was given the "award"
