Hi! My name is Jibran Hutchins, and I'm excited to get started on my recruiting journey! I have been running competitively since the end of my freshman year, only seriously considering running since my sophomore year. Prior to running competitively I was involved in numerous travel soccer clubs, but as soon as I joined the track team, my passion for running grew. When I joined the cross country team during the summer of 2022, I never expected for my position on the team to go from the bottom to the top. By the end of the cross country season during my sophomore year, I had placed 8th at our 2022 Patriot District XC championship and 8th at our 2022 Occoquan Region XC championship. At the 2022 VHSL Class 6 State Meet, I placed 17th, getting 3rd for our team and helping us achieve 1st place as a team, winning the entire title. During my sophomore outdoor season, my competitiveness only grew. I managed to secure a 4:26 1600m as a sophomore at our Woodson Twilight Meet and a 9:38 3200m as a sophomore at the Occoquan Region T&F Championship, placing 2nd in the Region. At the 2023 VHSL Class 6 State Championship, I managed to achieve 9th place in the 3200m as a sophomore, running 9:39. During my junior year summer I trained vigorously, running at my peak around 65-70 miles a week. Because of this intense training, my junior year cross country season was a massive success. At the 2023 Patriot District XC Championship I managed to achieve a 3 mile time of 15:10, winning 2nd place and becoming the 3rd place record holder for Woodson in the 3 mile. After getting 5th at our regional championship, I moved on to the state championship where I placed 6th place in the state, officially getting 6th at the 2023 VHSL Class 6 State Meet and breaking the course record for our school. Finally, moving on to NXR Southeast Regional, I placed 35th in the Southeast, achieving a 5k time of 15:28. After this race, I decided to move on to the Footlocker championship in North Carolina, a decision which I would come to regret. In the last 100m of the race, my hip gave out from under me and snapped, leading me to the surgery room. Because of this injury, I had to unfortunately miss my junior year indoor and outdoor seasons, but luckily, I recovered fairly quickly, and at this point, I am back to running. I plan on running and building back up to strength this coming senior summer and year, and am already very excited to get going.
Academically, I would consider myself highly motivated. So far as a junior I have taken numerous APs (reference academics), achieved five 5s and two 4s on said AP exams, achieved a 4.43 weighted cumulative GPA, have gotten a 1510 superscore on the SAT, a 1470 on the PSAT, and have been involved in numerous extracurriculars. I will not list all of the extracurriculars because they should be listed above. I am intensely interested in finance and quantitative finance as a potential career interest, as shown by my participation in finance clubs and by my internship at a financial advising agency. I have been a personal investor for years, and my experience with asset management and asset speculation within the insurance industry has aided in my overall experience. Ideally, a future career for me would be in asset management and analysis on the quantitative/research end of management. I have self-educated myself on numerous investment principals, and have a particular interest in the functioning of financial derivative products and relative risk allocation. During the summer, I plan on running, attending my internships (looking to intern for a political campaign), volunteering, and creating a new finance club at my school.
