Personal Statement
My name is Dominique Valrey and I am starting my junior year at Life Christian Academy in Tacoma, Washington. Track and Field is a sport I enjoy and feel I can thrive in. I started running in the fifth grade after my parents enrolled me in a track club. I love to run, but never knew it was something I was good at until I noticed an improvement in my performance on a consistent basis.
I began running in cross country and track and field for Life Christian Academy in seventh grade and my love for running has only grown. Currently I run the 100-meter, 200-meter, 400-meter and compete in the long jump. My strongest event is the 400-meter race. I have improved my time yearly by 3 to 5 seconds in all my years competing in 400-meter races. My desire is to continue this trend during my next two years of high school and club competition.
Over the next couple of seasons my goal is to represent my school at the state championships for both Cross Country and Track & Field. Continuing summer club competition will allow me to compete in the weekly USATF meets and possibly the USATF National Junior Olympics.
My dream is to compete at the college level in Track & Field. I enjoy competing and being part of a team. I strongly believe I can bring this same energy and love for the sport to the college level.
College will allow me to continue to study academically in the fields of science, math, and literature, and pursue a career of my dreams. My parents have always instilled the importance of education in my life. They have taught me through hard work and perseverance anything is possible.
