Aloha Coaches. My name is Bhrycen Asuncion and I am from Honolulu, Hawaii. I just complete my Freshman year as a Libero/Defensive specialist at Menlo College. I am looking to transfer because although this college has proved to give many a successful future, it has handed me a variety of reasons as to why it is not a great match for me both academically, and athletically. Before attending Menlo College, I participated in volleyball for 4 years. Ever since I started playing volleyball for my high school team in the 9th grade, the sport itself has grown on me, more than I had expected.
Kneepads-too-tight-on-the-glutes spandex are what most people associate with volleyball. These social connotations mean it is not "normal" for a boy to play. And justly so, being a male player is a completely unique experience. From age 13, I was raised in a world where a lot of people will never experience or understand. My exhilarating commitment to volleyball has yielded special opportunities and lessons that have shaped my core values and formed me into a better player and person. This experience so far has cemented the concepts of focus and dedication into my impressionable thirteen-year-old mind. It has always been a dream to play at a competitive school and I cannot wait to see where it takes me.
I am very excited to get out there and see what the world has to offer through both sports and academics.
