Personal Statement
As a child, I experimented with the typical sports a young boy tries: baseball, basketball and football. However, I found little success or passion in these sports. It was not until my brother introduced me to volleyball that I ascertained my true calling. I immediately picked up the sport, and seized every opportunity to play that I could. I made it my goal to be the most elite player I could be at both the high school and collegiate level.
As an athlete, I am determined, coachable, and an effective team leader. Whenever I step on to the court, whether it be during practice or a game, I make it my mission to compete at the highest of my abilities, and walk off the court a better player than I was when I stepped on. Additionally, I thrive off of constructive criticism and am open to new ideas and playing techniques. I appreciate feedback I receive from teammates and coaches, and utilize that feedback to strengthen my game. My strong suit as a leader is my ability to boost and maintain team morale. No matter what the score on the scoreboard is, I maintain the same determined mentality and positive spirit. By communicating and giving words of encouragement to my teammates, I make sure that all six players on the court play with an upbeat and positive mentality throughout the duration of every game.
In the classroom, I push myself to be the best that I can be, maintaining a 4.27 GPA. I am a very math and science oriented person, and would like to pursue a career in engineering. Aside from volleyball, I enjoy spending my time volunteering and giving back to the community. I organize an annual food drive for my local animal shelter, and I volunteer at the Special Olympics held at my high school every year.
Ultimately, I want to find a college where I can push myself to be the best I can be academically and athletically.
