Personal Statement
My name is Oliver Crawford-Shelmadine. My collegiate goals are to become the best water polo player that I can be and to study the environment. My decision to study the environment was inspired by my love of the ocean and experiencing firsthand how ecosystems can drastically change over time. Living near the Pacific Ocean, I spend a great deal of time at the beach and have noticed a remarkably high growth rate in the amount of trash littered across our beaches and in the water.
I think that I would add a lot to any college team with my work ethic and coachability. I work extremely hard not to just better myself but to try and bring my team to the top and get everyone on the team the best that they can possibly be. I am extremely interested in playing collegiate water polo and will whatever it takes to earn a spot on a college team. I have the motivation and the drive to earn and keep a spot on a college team.
I have spent the last three years as a Biotechnology Institute student at my high school, a cross-curricular science-centric program. Having learned advanced lab skills and conducting advanced science experiments, I am particularly interested in the agricultural and environmental applications of biotechnology
