Personal Statement
Hello!
My name is Natalia Guthrie. I have been playing softball since I was 5 years old, or 2 years old if you count wiffle ball, and that is when I first fell in love with the game. Ever since, it has been a major priority of mine and I've always dreamt of playing at the collegiate level. Now that the time is here, I am beyond excited to start my recruiting process, so here are some of my goals and hobbies on and off the field. For starters, I am working hard and aiming to play division 1. Countless hours of reps, workouts and advice has led me to where I am today and I am super thankful for everyone who has helped me along my journey. Given the fact I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in August 2019, mental strength has been on my radar and I have incorporated this into softball with overcoming challenges and adversity. Having off days due to my blood sugar levels has taught me to sit back and appreciate how much I love being on the field. I am always wanting to better myself and help my team in any way I can, whether that is in a starting position or on the bench.
Having a growth mindset has helped me accomplish so much in softball as well as academics. I have started Early College High School, which is a program that prepares students for college. ECHS supports and develops pathways to higher education that lead to careers in STEM fields. This rewarding opportunity will advance my learning and allow for a head start into college, resulting in up to 30 college credits by graduation. Starting in 6th grade I have maintained my goal of having a 4.0 GPA and along with completing numerous volunteer hours, I've held a spot in National Junior Honors Society. Through my focus and hard work I have also received the New York Attorney General's Triple "C" Award. This award recognizes courage, character and commitment of New York State's outstanding students.
