My name is Madison Magilke here is a summary of who I am and what has made me the person I am. My parents have been a big part of who I am today. They have Taught me to keep pushing no matter what, to keep going even when it gets hard, they have taught me to be a better person overall and have a good attitude no matter the circumstance. To find the positive in each day even if it is hard. Softball has impacted me as a person as well, it has taught me how to work hard, and be disciplined and proactive in achieving my goals.
My parents introduced me to the game from the time I was born, we spent many weekends and evenings just playing wiffle ball for fun. My parents always tell the stories of how I walked around with a bat and ball since I was a toddler. I started playing tee ball at three years old and I was hooked immediately. My parents tell me how competitive I was even at three. Often having to remind me that others wanted to play to play as well, and I couldn’t just run and get everyone out, I have since learned to be a team player, ha-ha. I have been playing competitive softball now since I was twelve years old. I think my passion was driven by my dad’s baseball career. My dad played baseball throughout his high school years, playing at the collegiate level at Cisco, junior college. I was already born at this time and even went to college with him and mom. I have always looked up to him as an athlete and a person. I want to follow in his footsteps and play at the college level more than anything. I know the sacrifices he made in his baseball career to be an amazing dad with me, and I know watching me play past high school will be the best gift for those sacrifices.
I have learned that I can stick to something, even if it is hard. I have learned that if I am willing to work hard and not give up, I can overcome any obstacles that arise. When you love something, and you want to be better you must always have a growth mindset.
My academic goals for the remainder of my high school career are to improve my grades and GPA. I am going to really work on my time management with my classes, since I am so active in sports this can be challenging. Beyond just playing softball, I aspire to be a teacher and coach in the future. I want to pass my love for the game to other little girls.
The biggest obstacle I had to overcome was losing my grandfather in 2020. He was a huge part of my life, and it really made it difficult to be the best me. I struggled through trying to find joy in my normal activities during this time. Softball was the light in my dark during this time and helped me find myself. I have also pushed through everyday athlete pains and aches, pushing and training harder to be the best athlete I can.
