Personal Statement

Hello. My name is Brooke Munoz and I am from Sussex County, New Jersey. I have been playing basketball since 3rd grade and AAU basketball since 5th grade.  I currently play volleyball and lacrosse and I have also played tennis and track freshman year. Basketball has always been a passion of mine and I am looking to further that at the college level. I am a very strong defensive player and I am not afraid of getting aggressive. I have played on AAU teams like DF Elite, Crossroads, and BT Basketball. I like to show a strong leadership role, especially on the defensive side. During this past season, my job down low was to box out girls and get rebounds, and I executed that role. Especially with playing basketball for the past 8 years, I have learned to play with different teammates with different skill levels. Since I have played on different AAU, travel, and school teams, I know how to adjust  and adapt to different teams fairly quickly. I also know how to challenge myself and like to get pushed out of my comfort zone. For example, the fall before my sophomore season, there was not enough girls to make a fall AAU team. So instead of sitting the season out, I practiced with the high school boys aau team and they definitely challenged me, but made me better.

I also take on a responsibility role, not only in sports, but in school and everyday life. I am a part of clubs at my school like Pass It Along. I also have a job as a buser/ waitress at Millside Cafe in Lafayette, NJ on the weekends, and I have been working there right after I turned 14 (August 2017). Some other hobbies besides sports are, lifting, listening to music, baking, playing with my dog, and hanging out with friends. In college I want to study Political Science/ Criminology. I put just as much effort into academics as athletics and both are very valuable to me and I want to find a program that would benefit me in both areas.

By becoming a college athlete will make me manage my time and follow a strict schedule, which I do well with. I am very familiar with this way of life from being a three- sport athlete for the past 3 years. I do not only have the passion and love for this sport, but I also hold my work ethic and performance to a very high standard. I hope to continue my basketball career in college because I truly love the sport and all the opportunities, friendships, and lessons it has brought into my life. I will always give 100% all day, everyday. Even if my team is loosing by 50, I always make sure to put in even more effort, because anything can still happen as long as there is still time left on that scoreboard. I know how to put in hard work and be a true leader for your team!
