When I first started playing for a basketball team my freshman year of high school, I became a starter on the varsity team. I fell in love with the excitement of late game comebacks, the reaction of my teammates, the people in the crowd, and the adrenaline. I transitioned to a new school my sophomore year and was named All Star 2nd Team in my conference, and lead my team to the semifinals. Due to the pandemic, I did not have a junior season. With my season being cancelled, I did not give up. I kept working and toning my skills while learning new things.
Given my circumstance, I have developed a solid mid range pull up jump shot and a good dribbling/layup package. My rip through to the basket is quick and effective to get past any defenders. I recognize my advantages and also my disadvantages. For example, being short is something I can't control, but learning how to create seperation and become faster to get past my defenders quicker is something I can control, so I've been working on just that instead of being discouraged because of my height. I want to be better and get better every chance I can. I want advice, I want criticism, I want anything and everything that will help me get better and go to the new level. I am very coachable and a team player. I've really matured overtime and started to notice the little details such as; making the extra pass, not forcing a shot, and realizing that scoring is not the only way to win games. I love playing defense more than scoring. I have the mentality that no matter who you are, you're not scoring on me without having to really work for it. A player that I really look up to and develop my game after is Diamond Johnson.
