The love of ‘all things sports’ began as early as 5 years old when I began doing gymnastics, soccer, track, and basketball through various clubs. As I got older, I realized that basketball was the only sport that I truly enjoyed due to the mental and physical toughness, technical and tactical skills required, and the camaraderie I have with my teammates. It is this passion, commitment, and ‘all-in’ mentality that I would love to take with me into playing at the collegiate level.
My high school, club, and position coaches have all highlighted several key strengths of my game: defense IQ and toughness; shooting ability; and offensive court awareness. They have also commented on my coach-ability, work ethic, and leadership. It is these strengths that have led me becoming a summer camp assistant, winter club coach, and basketball trainer for girls’ elementary, middle school, and junior high students through my coaches’ programs. Through these experiences, I have become a better communicator, leader, and motivator which will help in game situations.
These coaching opportunities have also given me a desire to pursue a career as a pediatric physical therapist to help with sports’ recovery and performance in young people. I have already begun pursing the Health Sciences track at my high school and will be well-prepared to complete an undergraduate degree in Heath Sciences (Pre-Physical Therapy) in college.
Thus, I am excited about the opportunity to be accepted into a University that will allow me to pursue my passions of playing basketball and obtaining a degree for my future career.
