Personal Statement
Since I stepped on the ice for the first time, my goal has always been to play women's hockey in college on a team with high athletic as well as academic potential. Playing for the past eight years has taught me many skills, not just during the game, but before and after. Skills such as leadership, communication, and teamwork have always been an essential part of the game for me. To me, passing and creating plays is just as important as the final shot that goes in. As an offensive defenseman, I know how to take the puck up and lead offensive rushes as well as stay back and create opportunities from my team's zone. Most importantly, I understand that every game is won on all sides of the ice, whether scoring goals or making big plays on defense.
Academically, I continuously challenge myself to take different classes that push me out of my comfort zone. Taking AP, honors, and accelerated courses throughout all four years of high school has taught me that time management is critical. Being able to not only be a part of a team, but also keep up with school work can be difficult at times, but I always find the balance.
