Personal Statement
My Hockey career has never been easy. I started skating and joined a Learn to Play Hockey league at the late age of 12, while most girls start at 4 or 5. Every weekend possible I would go skating or to local Stick and Puck’s, constantly working on my skating and skills. It was hard, trying to catch up with all the other players, but I fell in love with the sport and there was no going back.
I made the Naperville Sabres Club team when I was 13, where I met amazing girls and coaches that helped me get to where I am now. My second year at Sabres, I became the leading goal scorer and an alternate captain. I was also chosen for the CCM Select team in the Chitown Shuffle that spring. My success pushed me to try out for my high school boys’ team my sophomore year. It was tough, but ultimately, I learned a lot about grit and adversity that help me in all aspects of my life, such as school and work. It also taught me the importance of being a valuable team member that lifts people up and encourages them to do better. My goal in college is to use these skills in the best way possible and make a good impact on those around me. I want to become the best player I can be, and will continue to do anything I need to get there.
