Personal Statement

I am a 15-year-old sophomore at Xavier College Preparatory in Phoenix, Arizona. I am a dedicated student-athlete, a proud member of the National Honor Society, and a passionate rower with big goals for my future—both in rowing and medicine.

I discovered rowing just last year, but from the moment I took my first stroke, I knew I had found my sport. As a freshman (23/24), I was honored to be part of the first-ever Xavier freshman crew to qualify for South-West Regionals 2024. That experience solidified my love for the sport and my drive to push myself beyond limits. Standing at 5’8”, I have worked tirelessly to build strength, endurance, and technical skills, and I thrive in the camaraderie and competitive spirit that rowing demands. Every practice, every erg test, and every race fuels my determination to improve, lead, and compete at the highest level.

Rowing is also deeply personal to me—both of my parents represented Ireland in rowing, and they have modeled the hard work, dedication, and joy that come with the sport. Their experiences have shown me that success comes not just from talent but from a relentless work ethic and a love for the process. That mindset drives me every day, both on and off the water.

Beyond the water, I am equally committed to academic excellence. I challenge myself with rigorous coursework in science and mathematics, as I aspire to pursue a career in medicine. The discipline, perseverance, and teamwork that rowing has instilled in me are the same qualities I bring to my studies. Balancing athletics and academics has taught me time management, resilience, and the importance of setting ambitious goals.

My dream is to row at the collegiate level while preparing for a future in medicine. I am eager to connect with programs that value both athletic and academic excellence. I know that my work ethic, passion, and leadership will make me a strong asset to a collegiate rowing team, and I would love the opportunity to contribute to a competitive and driven environment.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about me. I look forward to continuing my journey in rowing and academics, and I hope to connect with programs that share my passion for excellence.
