Personal Statement

Hello! My name is Grace Regnier, and I first fell in love with rowing a little more than a year ago. I remember first setting foot in an eight-oared shell at Learn-to-Row, the feeling of connection as I took my first stroke. I knew immediately that I belonged, and after only one day I asked if I could try out for Mile High Rowing Club that fall.

Though I have dabbled in soccer and tennis over the years, no other sport has taught me the importance of trust and challenge like rowing has. Training in the lightweight eight for Junior Nationals, I realized our best practices were the ones where my boat mates and I trusted one another, and ourselves. I had to believe that I could give my all, every piece. I had to trust in my teammates to do the same. I also learned that the challenge of the sport was an equally important tool. Yes, there were hard days, but each one was an opportunity to learn more about myself. Every time I overcame a setback, it was all the more satisfying for the difficulty. And even on the toughest days, my love for rowing remained intact.

I am looking for a team in college that will both challenge and support me. I am ready to work for success on the water, and I hope to build lifelong friendships in the process! I am so excited to take my passion to the collegiate level.

Thank you!
